Classic Gingerbread Cookies

Our cookie countdown to Christmas continues with these absolutely amazing gingerbread men cookies! The recipe is from Fine Cooking so you know its gotta be good! What makes them so wonderful? Apart from the classic combination of warm cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, and cloves, there is 3/4 cup of mild molasses for that chewiness that is so necessary and essential to good gingerbread. The secret ingredient is freshly grated orange zest that adds a whole new level to gingerbread cookies. They should be made this way ALL the time!
Get your family together and make these with as much help as you can get because these are time consuming but well worth the trouble. I chose to just decorate with white royal icing like the recipe called for. No gumdrop buttons for Gingy to get upset about! ;) Feel free to decorate as much or as little as you want!
